On October 15th, 2024, GBA brought together publishing professionals in Frankfurt for an in-person sustainability workshop focused on one of the sector’s most pressing challenges: data. The session explored how the book industry can improve sustainability data collection and reporting, and resulted in a proposed set of practical recommendations aimed at supporting more consistent, transparent, and useful data practices across the supply chain. The workshop also created space for open discussion, with participants sharing current pain points, gaps, and opportunities for collaboration.

Building on that momentum, this virtual event on November 21st, Data Unpacked: Follow-Up from GBA’s Frankfurt Workshop, revisited the original proposal, reflected on feedback from the room, and continued the conversation with a wider global audience. This session was an opportunity for anyone working in sustainability in the book industry to connect, ask questions, and flag concerns as we collectively work toward clearer, more aligned approaches to sustainability data.
